A VISIT FROM DAP: Wilford Brimley - A Pretty Cool Dude

From Wikipedia:
Allen Wilford Brimley (born September 27, 1934), better known as Wilford Brimley, is an American actor. Active since 1968, he has appeared in such films as The China Syndrome and Cocoon. Brimley is also known for appearing in television commercials, including ads for Quaker Oats and (starting in 2001) for Liberty Medical, a medical company which provides supplies for diabetes.

DIABEEETUS! This dude and dead Lou Rawls (Colonial Penn Life Insurance) are absolute legends in the latenight commercial game.

Before his career in acting, Brimley worked as a ranch hand, wrangler, blacksmith, and a bodyguard for Howard Hughes. He then began shoeing horses for film and television. He began acting in the 1960s as a riding extra in Westerns and as a stunt man at the urging of his friend.

DOPE, DOPE, DOPE, DOPE, DOPE, AND DOP

A VISIT FROM KATE: Photoshopped and screwed

I have a softspot for news stories about bad photoshopping.  It happens all the time, but this one is hot off the press and I just... I don't know, I really like it.  The way they tried to match the angle, and tried to match the light with a big fake highlight on the right side of his head even though it was clearly never going to happen, and the way it seems like he's checking out the mom, and the fact that this guy probably works in the recreation department in Toronto and seems super juiced... it's great.  Plus the article has this choice quote from John Gosgnach, communications director for the social development division: "He superimposed the African-Canadian person onto the family cluster in the original photo..." Check it out!

A VISIT FROM DAP: CrAcK Kids + LARPing + Negro Cocaine "Fiends"

Reason Magazine did a Top 10 most absurd Time covers piece that's pretty awesome. My dad's gotten a free subscription to Time Magazine since sometime in the late 1980s, he thinks it's somehow linked to him telling them he was a teacher over the phone, but who knows. The point being I used to read this piece of trash 'newsmagazine' pretty much every week through the end of high school. Here are a few highlight covers:

And finally, here's a snippet of a 1914 New York Times:

SPLIFF N' GIRL N' GUNS N' ROSES

I had a dream that I was smoking a spliff with a girl I know and listening to Guns N' Roses. It might sound boring but it was a great dream.

A VISIT FROM DAP: ADD MORE PEAS

I was standing next to a vaguely Asian woman wearing a chef's hat who was making me a giant hamburger. It was maybe 12 inches in diameter and the bun was made completely of birdseed, resembling a giant sesame candy in a bun shape. The whole time she was making it I kept insisting that she add more peas. After finishing the more or less normal but giant hamburger she added a a huge amount of what I knew in the dream to be 'plum sauce' on top and she tried to put the top bun on. I quickly reached over and grabbed a handful of green peas from a dish and started sprinkling them into the plum sauce. She smacked my hand, then apologized about a minute later under her breath.

A VISIT FROM DAP: Charles Mudede + Zoo + THE FOOD

I'm back from Seattle, the city that sleeps fairly frequently. We (Kondabolu Brothers) interviewed Charles Mudede (writer of Zoo and Police Beat) for the talk show, which involved talking about dudes fucking cars, horses fucking dudes and aliens being 'like us', it was dope.

From Wikipedia:
Zoo, a film by The Stranger columnist Charles Mudede and director Robinson Devor, and executive producers Garr Godfrey and Ben Exworthy, is a documentary on the life and death of Kenneth Pinyan (played by Adam T. McLain) a Seattle area man who died of peritonitis due to perforation of the colon after engaging in receptive anal sex with a horse. The film's public debut was at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2007, where it was one of 16 winners out of 856 candidates, and played at numerous regional festivals in the USA thereafter. Following Sundance, it was also selected as one of the top five American films to be presented at the prestigious Directors Fortnight sidebar at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

My brother made this little ditty when he was in Los Angeles with Randall Park, the guy behind the very funny Dr. Miracles.

Update: They painted over the DKNY Skyline wall on Houston Street across from the F train at Broadway/Lafayette. It's been up there for 2 decades but Hollister (!) bought the space and painted the wall brown. Hollister, isn't that like surfing gear or something?

BOOBTUBE: THIS RAP VIDEO REMINDS ME OF SO MANY OF MY FRIENDS

this is by the chicago rapper Sharkula aka Swordfish aka Martin Luther King Jr. Whopper with Cheese. years ago my friend mike somehow met him in an alley in chicago, and bought his album right there, which was just a burned Maxell CD-R with a phone number written on top. mike called it later that week and it was sharkula's cell number, who remembered mike and asked him if he wanted to buy any more albums or any weed. i forget what mike's answer was.

this is sharkula's newest video, which reminds me of my friends victor, jordan, hima, chris, paul, dap, jon voight, 248 mckibben, and lil wayne.

LOFT PARTY

I had a dream I was at a loft party but it was like a giant lofted bed and everyone was rolling around in pillows and blankets and stuff. There was a fruit platter with sliced kiwis and papaya and this weird cotton candy textured semi-sweet goat cheese that was HELLA GOOD. I woke up laughing when I overheard someone say, "I really like the empowered female protagonist in your novel." No boho.
