\\\asher roth week continues: to be young, rapping, and white

Last night I listened to hot 97 and live tweeted a taping of an Asher Roth interview with Peter Rosenburg that got extremely awkward when Rosenburg asked Roth why he doesn't "pound it out" after shows, as in why he hangs out with his boys smoking tree instead of hitting on girls. Then they talked about how white people that like rap hate on other white people that like rap. They really got some angst out on the air. I felt for them. Being famous white males is like totez, wack. There's so much white on white hate in hip-hop. White people need to stick together more is something I've been saying since the beginning of time. Who else said something like that? Grand Wizard Dragon.... (Oh, forget it.) After complaining about how difficult it is to be white in the hip-hop game, Rosenburg played 2 Chester French songs and 3 Eminem songs. (I'm not joking.) One of them was that "i am whatever you say i am" song from like 6 years ago that's filled with more angst. Then Rosenburg bigged up the show he's presenting at the Gramercy Theatre: Peter Rosenburg Presents Chester French and Asher Roth. This show can only be rivaled by the Columbia University show with Vampire Weekend and Talib Kweli.

Last week there was a great article on the idiot in the New York Times and now I'm going to share some of my favorite lines from that article with you:

"I have to embrace this role of ‘Asher Roth’ now," he said the following morning in the hotel’s empty restaurant, wearing the same white T-shirt and grayish jeans as the night before and straining a bit after just a few hours’ sleep. "If I continue to behave this way, sure, people are going to love me, but I’m going to be run down into the ground."
(What is the role of Asher Roth? 'I have to embrace this role of playing video games?' 'I have to embrace this role of being plucked out of my mediocre college by a music executive that wanted to be a rapper but couldn't and will now vicariously live through me while using his connections to get people like Luda to pretend they give a shit about me and respect me on youtube videos?' 'I have to embrace this god awful role of smoking tons of pot?' I mean, Andrew W.K. - that dudes got a tough role to embrace. He wrote like 90 songs about partying. And then 30 more that weren't good.)

"I have no real gimmick," he said, shrugging.
(Nope, no gimmick here.)

"Raised by a father who is the executive director of a design firm and an herbalist-astrologer-yoga-teacher mother, he’s unfailingly affable, with a bit of Ferris Bueller-style naughtiness thrown in."
(Did I really need another reason to hate on dude. HERBALIST-ASTROLOGER-YOGA-TEACHER... aka my favorite people in the world.)

"he would walk around his family’s home in Morrisville, Pa. — a racially mixed town of about 10,000 a half-hour northeast of Philadelphia — and rap for long stretches of time, a practice his father took to calling 'rap Tourette’s.'"
(This is his executive director father likening his passion for hip-hop to a neuropsychiatric disorder.)
"Culturally, Em was almost a black guy. My background is more stereotypically white."
(Not even gonna...)
"Listen more closely, and there are deeper differences at play: the working class versus the middle class, the abandoned versus the nurtured, the outsider versus the assimilated."
(I have a lingering suspicion that all three of these things are not at play upon listening closely. In fact, I bet NONE of these three things are at play upon listening closely.)
"I’m naïve in my thinking in the sense of race," he said. "I have this whole wishful-thinking way about me."
(You said it, dog)
"He practices yoga. Many around Mr. Roth describe him as a hippie."
(Again, not even gonna...)

"I’d be like, I’m going to go over here with my college kids and just be who I am. But hip-hop is now that too, and we have to come to terms with the fact that hip-hop is so Morrisville, P-A, now."
(I actually do not have to come terms with the fact that hip-hop is so Morrisville, P-A, now. If I did actually have to do that, I'd go out samurai style.)

I've talked about Asher's "naive thinking in the sense of race" and the gem he dropped on the A Millie Remix he did [[["you know the world's gone mad/ when blacks wear plaid"]]] before but Leif stopped by our myspace with a present and an excuse to bring it up again:

EVERYONE: THIS PHOTO IS INDICATIVE OF THE WORLD GOING MAD.

\\\another asian williamsburg hipster grifter?

So any of you who get bored at work and read blogs and stuff may have heard of a lady by the name of Kari Ferrell, a 22-year-old from Utah who scammed her way around Brooklyn. Shorty has 6 warrants out for owing 60 g's to the feds in Utah for check fraud. (Dope!). The headlines here are: fakes cancer, uses sexuality, clever puns on her azn-ness, general patho lying, and scamming and stealing. In Utah she told a dude she was a veterinary assistant who was the victim of racial prejudice that ended with her dog being killed by a co-worker. She also claimed to join the Peace Corps and go to Mozambique.

She did things like this:

"It was also around November that a guy named Troy was at Union Pool, the Williamsburg bar, when the bartender passed him a note from another customer. It read, 'I want to give you a hand job with my mouth,' and was signed 'Korean Abdul-Jabbar.' It was, according to Troy, from Ms. Ferrell. Another time, a patron at Fabiane's, the café on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, said Ms. Ferrell passed him a note which read: 'I want you to throw a hot dog down my hall.'" (More color here: Gawker)

The internet has gone insane with chatter about Kari though I'd like to shed light on a different hipster grifter. This hipster swindler is a dude, not a broad, and a different kind of Asian. His name is Ashoke Bondabolu and his shenanigans have made fools out of people all over Bushwick and Williamsburg. Have you seen this scammer?

Don't be fooled by the sly demeanor. He's a total con man. A real defrauder.

I was sitting at the Levy at 2 AM drinking alone in a corner when the bartender passed a note to me that read: "I want to give you a blow job with my hand" and was signed "Dune Coon McGee". I was drunk and had been questioning my sexuality at the time so I said, "what the heck" and decided to have a chat with the gouger. We ended up at my place where the beguiler ordered shit loads of sushi with a credit card number he rattled off the top of his head and told me he could get me into the Clipse concert coming up because he wrote for Blender. I believed him. Then the slicker told me if I gave him 200 bucks he could score me the dopest Meth this side of Tallahassee. Obviously I coughed up the cash and then didn't hear from him for 2 weeks. The Clipse concert passed. Eventually the welcher - this trickster of a man - sent me a message on myspace making up a bogus lie about his cell phone being out of commission and having lost his wallet with my money in it. He claimed he also lost his dusty specs, a scarf, a chain that he gave away, his belt, two hats, both of which weren't his, and a Coogi jacket he recently bought.

I don't know why I trusted someone that looked like this in the first place. Maybe it was the wild and crazy hair or the exuberant hat game:

Here's a picture of me and the con man (left). This was taken at Public Assembly where the chiseler winked at the door man, gave him a cigarette, and got us in for free to see
the Harlem Shakes and Vampire Weekend and The Cool Kids and Talib Kweli. I really love all of those bands.

Last I heard he was getting kicked out of The Wreck Room and yelling "You sure you want to kick me out of this bar? I'm in little band called POPO." He was also recently seen getting kicked out of Charleston while yelling "You sure you want to kick me out of this bar? I wrote, directed, and acted in a little movie called SUPER TROOPERS. You asshole." He has a tattoo of a broken humpty dumpty crying on the inside of his right arm and a slurpy on the back of his left arm. Don't make the same mistake I did. Ask questions.

\\\underrated in the game like my name Mark Ruffalo

That title isn't from a real song or anything, but I wanted to shed some light on how underrated my man Mark Ruffalo is in the acting game. Mark Ruffalo is to acting what Young Dro is to rap. Here are some things you may not know about Mark Ruffalo:

  • In addition to acting, he is a director, producer, and screenwriter. He'll be directing and acting with Orlando Bloom in Sympathy for Delicious this year.
  • He was raised around the local Bahai community.
  • His brother was shot in the head either execution style or while playing russian roulette, possibly related to massive gambling debt.
  • He was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma, a type of brain tumor, in 2002. It was benign, but resulted in partial facial paralysis.
  • He was excellent in WE DONT LIVE HERE ANYMORE, which he also executive produced.
  • Ruffalo and Brody are in a movie together that drops in May.

Here are some photos of Mark Ruffalo to look at:

Mark Ruffalo's Brother Shot in the Head

mark-ruffalo-20060115-102414

If I was writing a fake short story about Mark Ruffalo, the beginning might go like this:

It was 6 AM. In his younger years Mark would have laid in bed longer, stared at the ceiling, and fallen back asleep. He used to bartend. Older Mark is an adult. He was busy. He had things to do. Mark had to take his daughter to school, his son to day care, and had a meeting with Universal at 2 pm. He was trying to quit smoking. He was failing. He used to smoke Camel Lights. When he was 28 he switched over to Parliaments. He was smoking a Parliament. He wasn't sure whether he should shave before the meeting or not. He didn't shave. His agent says he's known for his scruffy look. Mark secretly hates his agent, maybe not so secretly. He drives a pick up truck. He listens to Jeff Buckley, Grace, in his pick up truck. His pickup truck is green. He doesn't turn the volume very high, but it's not too low either. He skips to track 4. He thinks about how Buckley drowned. He misses his brother. He thinks 6:14 AM is way too early in the day to be depressed. Mark turns to his daughter sitting shottie, puts his hand on her head, and smiles. He feels a little bit better.

***also, totally not making a joke out of some of the fucked up shit dudes had to go through (i.e. his brother and his tumor). actually respect dude a lot. he's a good actor.

\\\wambo on asher roth + colt daddy

this dood wambo from mass really puts it down on this asher roth diss while driving with his knees:

there was this other diss that was really really bad by colt daddy and frank dux. it included blatant use of the n-word and received like four or five youtube responses of people laughing at it or dissing frank dux and colt daddy. i cant find that youtoob anymore but what i did find is colt daddy's response to people complaining about his use of the n-bom.

Current mood: argumentative

What up my niggaz? I have been getting some negative comments in the rap forums about me saying nigga when I rap and it is all bullshit. Not being able to say nigga as a rapper is a huge set back and it eliminates so many awesome rhymes that I could say. So I said FUCK IT. I am not racist. I see no color. I am color blind. All I see is my freinds, haters, and motherfuckers I dont know. Beside's I am half black so it is ok to say that. PEACE OUT MY NIGGAZ!!!!!!!

Saturday night Hima was screaming in the bathroom while I was screaming at dancehall and reggae and shit on yo'tubs, and then he came out and was all about me posting shit on here and I was cool with that so here it is.
